Have you got a CVC?

What exactly is a CVC?

It’s what the ASA is calling its newly appointed County Volunteer Coordinators.

What do they do?

They are being appointed to make a difference to the work of volunteers within aquatics.  Their main tasks are working with others in recruiting, retaining, rewarding, developing, and communicating with volunteers, helping clubs to recruit their own volunteer coordinator, providing feedback and guidance on matters affecting volunteers and generally raising the profile of volunteering.

How would I know if we have one?

Check on the website – there’s a list of them there along with lots of useful information on volunteering.

Could I be one?

Yes, if you are an active and open-minded volunteer with a knowledge and understanding of issues that volunteers face, feel motivated to become part of an invaluable network for the future development of volunteers and be willing to travel around your county.

What would I be expected to do?

Work and communicate with volunteers and paid members of staff, attend and contribute to ASA CVC forums (2 or 3 a year) with other CVCs and the ASA Volunteer Coordinator, communicate regularly with County ASA/County Swimming Action Group, be a point of contact for information and issues affecting volunteers and clubs within the county.

What are the benefits of becoming a CVC?

You will have the opportunity to contribute to a vital area of development within your county as part of a network committed to developing and helping all those who volunteer within the ASA. You will have the chance to meet and work with new people but, best of all, an opportunity to make a real difference!

I’d like to be a CVC – what do I do now?

Volunteer Training

As part of the ASA’s ongoing commitment to the development of its volunteers we are currently in the process of assessing the training needs of our volunteers and clubs.  We would be grateful if you complete this volunteer training ‘wish list’ to give us an idea of the training issues required within your club/county.  Whilst we understand that there may be many areas of interest or importance to you we would ask you choose your top 3 or 4 areas of highest priority.  The ASA is working towards providing signposting information and/or courses/workshops/resources to meet the requirements of your county training programme.

Please return all completed questionnaires by Friday 10th September to Matt Sturgess, ASA Volunteer Coordinator, Kettering Leisure Village, Thurston Drive, Kettering, NN15 6PB or if you would like to receive an electronic copy or return your form by email contact matt.sturgess@swimming.org

Or why not complete online at www.britishswimming.org and click on ‘volunteers and officials’.
