"CONGRATULATIONS"             "CONGRATULATIONS"

Bristol Channel Swim

On Sunday, 26th August, Gary Carpenter (Clevedon ASC), as an experienced open water swimmer, accomplished a long held dream - he swam the Bristol Channel from Penarth to Clevedon, in so doing he broke two records as follows:
(1)  Gary, at the age of 16, became the youngest swimmer to swim the Bristol Channel from Penarth to Clevedon.
(2) Gary broke the record for being the fastest swimmer across in a time of
5 hours and 35 minutes, he broke the previous record by two hours !!!

In completing this historic swim, Gary, to his eternal credit, raised the magnificent sum of £55,000 for Childrens Hospice South West.

Somerset ASA has great pleasure in offering Gary hearty congratulations on his magnificent swim.

ASA National Open Water Age Group Competitions

and Team Competition

Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham
25th August 2007

Congratulations to the Somerset ASA Open Water team who swam well and were rewarded by finishing in 6th place overall. This is a good result as there were four new members who were swimming at Nottingham for the first time and consequently were a little nervous but they all gave 100% as did the three swimmers who have competed in this event several times previously. The team members were:

Sophie Feboul  (Clevedon ASC)
Rosemary Harris  (Clevedon ASC)
Hayley McArthur  (Bridgwater ASC)
Evey Carpenter  (Clevedon ASC)
Ailish Williams  (Taunton Deane SC)
Gary Carpenter  (Clevedon ASC)
Chris Walsh  (Taunton Deane SC)
